|Life: An Evolving Adventure
Hot & dry, or hot & humid. Either way, it's hot. Seems like Mother Earth's thermostat is stuck above 90 degrees and everything is shimmering with heat mirage quality. Many places around the country are experiencing record-breaking heat, drought, extreme weather of all kinds, particularly tornadoes. The poor plants are crackling and brown, except for those lucky enough to be within sprinkler range or tended by a human. The others are on their own. Brush fires abound and when they are started by lightning stikes, can consume thousands of acres in an alarmingly short time. All these are consequences of global climate change, and despite those who would deny its existence for their own political agenda, this is our new reality and it's here to stay. I have a feeling that even if we reduce greenhouse gas emissions today, we've passed a point of no return. So now, we must look at ways of dealing with this new altered reality. I highly recommend environmental activist Bill McKibben's book, "Eaarth: Making a Life on a Tough New Planet". It will open your eyes wide, and hopefully inspire you to take whatever action is possible for you in your own situation.
